The part that matters
A Gaussian blur is a linear convolution — the original signal is still present in the output and can be mathematically recovered. SnapShield averages source pixels into blocks before any smoothing, so the information is genuinely gone. Block size scales with the content being covered, and solid covers are fully opaque. Verified by pixel-level tests that measure the exported image, not by code comments.
This applies to every tier. The Blur, Pixelate and Redact tools ship in the free Lite build and run the same code path; Pro adds automatic detection of faces and sensitive text, not a safer redaction.

Face Detection & Blur
An on-device ONNX face detection model (UltraFace) locates every face in the image and applies a blur block automatically — one click, zero manual work.
Text Region Detection
The Windows OCR engine scans the image for all visible text regions and marks each one for redaction. No external model files required — uses the OS engine.
Combined Scan
Run face detection and text detection simultaneously in a single pass. Results are merged and deduplicated automatically.
Manual Redact Regions
For anything the AI misses, draw custom blur or redact boxes anywhere on the image using the standard annotation tools.
Sensitive Data Detection
OCR + pattern matching scans the entire image for emails, phone numbers, credit card numbers, API keys, national IDs, bank accounts, and more — then auto-redacts every match in one pass. Works on screenshots of terminals, dashboards, and documents.
Smart Blur
Detects sensitive regions (faces, text, numbers) via AI and obscures only those areas, leaving the rest of the image crisp. A lighter alternative to full auto-redact for images where context matters.
Redaction Styles
Choose blur, pixelate, solid fill, or frosted-glass per region — or set a global default. Every style destroys the pixels underneath; the choice is how the result looks, not how much survives. Annotations stay editable until export.
Annotation Tools
Every annotation is a live object you can select, move, resize, rotate, or delete right up until you export. Unlimited undo/redo means you can experiment freely.

Obscures any region by averaging its pixels into blocks, so the detail is discarded rather than smeared. Drag to define the area; strength is adjustable and never drops below what the region size requires.

Editing & Cleanup
Four Pro tools for the work that comes after redaction — tidying the frame, the annotations and the things you did not want in the picture.
Select something and remove it. The gap is filled by diffusion inpainting: the hole is seeded from its boundary, then 25 passes propagate the surrounding texture inward, with noise matched to the local grain so the patch does not read as flat. Excellent on plain and gently graded backgrounds; busy detail is harder, and the result reports a quality score so you can judge it.
Detects the actual content bounds and shows the proposed crop as a preview — press Enter to apply, Esc to cancel. Useful for trimming the desktop, the taskbar and the dead space around a dialog without measuring anything.
Scans the image and suggests numbered step callouts, continuing from any steps already on the canvas. A starting point for a walkthrough that you then edit, not a finished document.
Takes the arrows and boxes you drew in a hurry and aligns them, evens the spacing and reports exactly what it changed. Everything stays non-destructive and undoable.
These four are image and layout algorithms, not machine-learning models. The one on-device model SnapShield ships is the face detector used by AI Redact and Smart Blur.
