The part that matters
A Gaussian blur is a linear convolution — the original signal is still present in the output and can be mathematically recovered. SnapShield averages source pixels into blocks before any smoothing, so the information is genuinely gone. Block size scales with the content being covered, and solid covers are fully opaque. Verified by pixel-level tests that measure the exported image, not by code comments.
This applies to every tier. The Blur, Pixelate and Redact tools are part of the free Lite build and use the same code path — Pro adds automatic detection of faces and sensitive text, not a safer redaction.
SnapShield collapses a block of source pixels into a single sample and throws the rest away, before any smoothing is applied. What is discarded cannot be reconstructed, because it is no longer there.
Block size scales with the region you cover, so a redaction can never come out weaker than the text underneath it — no slider to get wrong.
A solid cover is fully opaque, with zero variation inside it. Nothing to amplify, nothing to pull back out.
Checked by measuring the output, not by reading the code. The test suite redacts a known value, reads back the exported pixels and fails the build if anything survives — including a check that no redaction path can quietly go back to blur-only.
